Biography
Maurizio D'Andrea, professional name of Mauro D'Andrea, is an Italian painter, writer and author of theatre monologues, born in 1967 in San Giorgio a Cremano, in the province of Naples, and based in Alba, Piedmont.
His abstract painting is rooted in psychoanalytic thought, from Freud and Jung to Lacan, and is marked by a recurring, distinctive form: the vortex. He is the founder of the Radical Introversic Art Movement and Cultural Manager of Carthago Arte.
He received the Golden Lion at the Venice Triennale in 2024 and the Grand Prix Excellence Saint Germain des Prés at the Sorbonne in 2026. In 2026 one of his paintings was exhibited for three days at the National Pavilion of Grenada, 61st Venice Art Biennale.
A geology graduate with honours, specialising in volcanology, he turned his scientific background into a radical artistic vision: to investigate the invisible, to give form to what words cannot hold. Painter, writer, poet, playwright, software creator, art teacher, curator: a total artist.
«My path can be summed up in four states: creative extrapolation, research, experimentation and humility.»
