Eclissi di mente
Maurizio D'Andrea, in Eclissi di mente, offers us one of his signature "spot" stories—short narratives meant to be read in one sitting, yet leaving the reader with a lingering aftertaste of profound and intense reflection. Through a simple and fluid language—yet not lacking narrative depth—the author introduces powerful themes such as homelessness and depression. However, rather than merely recounting hardship, D'Andrea opens up avenues of thought that enchant the reader and provoke questions about many aspects of everyday life. He does not indulge in detailed scene descriptions; instead, he illuminates them with the mastery of one who seeks to portray life as seen through the lens of the soul. He tells of how life can change in an instant, and how, at times, one can emerge from darkness by believing in miraculous circumstances. The author recounts the choice made by Carlo, a respected stock market investor, to abandon his beautiful family and live as a homeless man in search of his true self. A decision that will lead him into a harsh existence, a life of deprivation—yet also one in which he discovers unexpected qualities within himself and begins to chase after the mysterious Lady of a Hundred Eyes.
15,45: Solo alcuni possono capire
15:45 is an irreverent and engaging story that revolves around the theme of neurosis.
It tells the tale of a couple, Emilia and Lelluccio. She, suffering from a neurosis in need of resolution, one day secretly decides to contact Dr. Pascione, a well-known psychologist. From there, a chain of events is set in motion—triggered gradually by small-town gossip, the (mis)use of social media, and frantic Google searches in the hope of finding a solution to every problem.
The story unfolds in Campania, the author's native land, to which he is deeply attached. The lives of the characters—from the main figures to the supporting ones—intertwine through misunderstandings, misinterpretations, fake news, and clichés.
The characters are not described in great detail; likewise, the scenes are narrated simply, without delving too deep—almost as if not too much should be revealed. They are rendered as brushstrokes on a canvas, leaving the reader with the freedom to interpret.
This is a stylistic choice by Maurizio D’Andrea that echoes the central themes of his entire artistic practice (from painting to writing, all the way to digital art): the unconscious and its rebellious motions.
Indeed, the author has made the “mind” the main subject of the works that have brought him international recognition. As in this case, where neurosis is addressed—not always explicitly, but persistently nonetheless.
Yet in the end—between a blank canvas and a phone call, shared fears and village chatter—will Emilia's secret remain hidden? And what does the number 15:45 really represent? These are the questions one must ask while reading this unusual yet delightfully entertaining book.
Ma non potevi fare una barca?
Are you one of those viewers who stand in front of a painting by Maurizio D'Andrea and wonder: “What does it represent? What is it trying to tell me?”
If this question sounds familiar, then you're in the right place.
This book was specifically written to help you understand the works of this artist and to explore the meaning and essence of abstraction and the expression of the unconscious.
Maurizio D'Andrea is an international painter devoted to a form of symbolic, psychological, intuitive, gestural, and emotional abstractionism. Each of his artworks is a journey into the unconscious—a sequence of shapes, colors, and marks that speak directly to the emotions.
Through his paintings, the artist creates a compelling visual narrative in which symbols and archetypes emerge from the depths of the psyche, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in a world of hidden meanings.
